Tecate, California - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials at the Tecate port of entry will increase their ability to process U.S. bound passenger vehicles during commuting hours during the summer season. CBP officials will convert two commercial truck lanes at the adjacent cargo facility to supplement vehicle traffic lanes at the passenger border crossing.

The governments of the U.S. and Mexico will collaborate to route northbound passenger cars through the CBP cargo facility during the early morning hours starting from 5 a.m. until 8 a.m., Monday through Friday.

CBP will utilize the additional lanes at the cargo facility beginning Monday, May 19 and will continue through September 30, 2014.

The commercial port of entry normally opens at 8 a.m. to process commercial shipments of merchandise and closes at 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

“We are pleased that we are able to staff the cargo facility to efficiently and securely, allow us to temporarily extend the number of available passenger vehicle lanes leading into the U.S.,” said Tecate Port Director Carlos Silva. “We are taking action to alleviate wait times which are usually heavy early in the morning."
