San Diego, California - The San Diego State football team and Arizona have agreed to a home-and-home series beginning in 2021, the two schools announced Tuesday.
The Aztecs and Wildcats will first play in Tucson, Arizona, on Sept. 11, 2021. SDSU and UA will then conclude the series on Sept. 3, 2022 at Qualcomm Stadium.
The addition of Arizona to the future schedules now gives San Diego State at least one Pac-12 school on its slate through the 2022 campaign, all home-and-home series. The Aztecs wrap up a series with Oregon State on Sept. 20 in Corvallis, then start a home-and-home with California (2015 in Berkeley, 2016 at Qualcomm Stadium), a series with Arizona State (2017 in Tempe, 2018 at Qualcomm Stadium), a home-and-home with UCLA (2019 in Los Angeles, 2020 at Qualcomm Stadium) and finally the series with Arizona (2021 in Tucson, 2022 at Qualcomm Stadium).
The two teams last met in the 2001 season opener (Aug. 30) in San Diego with the Wildcats coming out on top, 23-10. SDSU is 5-10 all-time against UA, including a 3-3 mark at home.
Arizona is coming off back-to-back 8-5 campaigns and consecutive bowl wins.
San Diego State has made a school-record four consecutive bowl game appearances and is coming off an 8-5 season (6-2 Mountain West) in 2013, which culminated in a 49-24 win over Buffalo in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on December 21.
The Aztecs kick off their 2014 campaign on Saturday, Aug. 30, when they welcome Northern Arizona to Qualcomm Stadium. Season tickets are now available to the general public for as low as $66 per seat. Tickets may be purchased online at GoAztecs.com, at Qualcomm Stadium Window "E" Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by calling (619) 283-7378 Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All orders have a $15 handling fee regardless of the point of sale.
