San Diego, California - For the first time in Mountain West history, the San Diego State women’s basketball team will begin conference action prior to New Year’s Day as the league announced its 2014-15 schedule Tuesday evening. Starting times for the Aztecs’ 18-game MW slate will be finalized at a later date.  In addition, SDSU’s non-conference schedule is nearing completion and will be released in the upcoming weeks.

The Aztecs embark on their quest for a third regular-season MW championship in the past four years when they travel to Air Force on Wednesday, Dec. 31. SDSU, which has not opened league play on the road since 2010, will be seeking its10th straight victory over the Falcons.

Following their excursion to the Academy, the Aztecs will play four of their next six contests in the friendly environs of Viejas Arena, beginning with a clash against Fresno State on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015. SDSU will be looking to put the brakes on a two-game home skid against the Bulldogs as the road team has captured the last four meetings in the series.

A road trip to New Mexico awaits the Scarlet and Black on Jan. 7, followed by the first of two open dates, before San Diego State returns to the hardwood on Jan. 14 to battle Wyoming in ”America’s Finest City.” The Aztecs will then head to the Silver State on Jan. 17 to take on UNLV, one of four MW teams to split with SDSU a year ago.

Two squads from the Front Range will venture to the West Coast, as head coach Stacie Terry’s troops welcome Air Force for a return engagement on Jan. 21, before locking horns with last year’s regular-season champion Colorado State three days later on Jan. 24.

Two road games will test the Aztecs’ mettle when SDSU makes the trek north for a rematch with Fresno State on Jan. 28, followed by an excursion to Utah State on Jan. 31.  Last year in the Central Valley, the Aztecs hit a jumper in the closing seconds to escape with a one-point victory over the Bulldogs, who would eventually capture the MW tournament title. Meanwhile, SDSU’s ensuing trip to Logan will mark its lone encounter with the Aggies during the regular season.

The second month of the league schedule finds SDSU once again facing four opponents at home in a six-game span. The Aztecs will seek to avenge a loss to Nevada in the quarterfinals of the MW Championship last year when the Wolf Pack invades Viejas Arena on Feb. 4, while Boise State follows with a visit to Montezuma Mesa shortly thereafter on Feb. 7.

San Diego State then faces perhaps its most daunting two-game road swing in league play when it travels to Wyoming (Feb. 11) and Colorado State (Feb. 14) on consecutive trips before returning to Viejas Arena to renew acquaintances with New Mexico (Feb. 18). Three days later, the Aztecs will play host to San José State in the lone regular-season matchup between the two schools this year (Feb. 21).

Following another open date, SDSU closes out its MW slate with two of three games on the road, stopping in Boise State (Feb. 28) and Nevada (March 6). In between those two contests, the Aztecs will conduct their home finale, squaring off against UNLV for the second straight season (March 3). Last year, SDSU won a thriller over the Lady Rebels with a late field goal as part of Senior Night festivities.

The Mountain West Championship will be held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev., for the eighth consecutive year and the 13th time overall on March 9-13. The format of the tournament remains roughly the same from last season with three first-round games on Monday, followed by four quarterfinal contests on Tuesday and two semifinal matchups on Wednesday. Following just one off-day, the championship finale will be contested on Friday of that week with a 1 p.m. PT tip-off.
