San Diego, California - The San Diego Chargers have placed running back Melvin Gordon (knee) on “Reserve-Injured” and signed running back Dreamius Smith from the practice squad, the team announced on Tuesday.

Gordon injured his knee during last Sunday’s 30-14 win over the Miami Dolphins. The Bolts’ first-round pick in 2015, Gordon’s ends his rookie campaign with 641 rushing yards (184 carries) and 192 receiving yards (33 receptions).

Smith, who wears No. 36, is a 5-11, 225-pound rookie from West Virginia, who has spent the last six weeks on the Chargers’ practice squad. He originally joined the Chargers in May as an undrafted rookie from West Virginia and was released at the end of training camp. Smith started the season on the Bolts’ practice squad but was released again prior to the team’s season opener against Detroit. As a collegian for the Mountaineers, Smith rushed for 945 yards and 10 touchdowns (183 carries) in two seasons in Morgantown and for the Chargers in the 2015 preseason, he rushed 28 times for 74 yards and a touchdown.

The Chargers also filled Smith’s vacancy on the practice squad by adding punter Kasey Redfern, a 6-2, 215-pound first-year player who spent time with Jacksonville in 2014 and 2015.
