San Diego, California - San Diego State is Lindy’s Sports College Basketball’s pick to win the Mountain West and reach the NCAA tournament’s Round of the 32. The Aztecs enter the 2016-17 campaign having won three straight MW regular-season titles and appeared in 11 consecutive postseason tourneys.

SDSU checks in at No. 27 nationally in Lindy’s top-40 team rankings and the publication has the Aztecs securing the MW’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Lindy’s also has SDSU’s incoming class, which includes transfers Montaque Gill-Caesar, Max Hoetzel and Valentine Izundu, and true freshman Jalen McDaniels, as the best newcomer group in the league.

Individually, Trey Kell, who is on the cover of the magazine, is Lindy’s 19th-best shooting guard in the country and a preseason first-team all-Mountain West player. Malik Pope, the publication’s top NBA prospect in the conference, and Jeremy Hemsley landed on the all-MW second team.

San Diego State is in the midst of its preseason preparations and will be in action on Nov. 3, when it plays host to UC San Diego in the first of two exhibition games. The Aztecs officially open the campaign on Nov. 11, when cross-town foe San Diego visits Steve Fisher Court at Viejas Arena.
