Augusta, Georgia - San Diego State senior Tanner Blain (Lindenhurst, Ill.) has been named a candidate on the 2016 Ray Guy Award Watch List, which is given to the top collegiate punter in the nation. Blain is one of 66 candidates on the initial list and one of seven from the Mountain West.
This season Blain has punted 37 times for 1,489 yards, averaging 40.2 yards per bot. Fifteen of his 37 punts have landed inside the 20-yard line, including six inside the 10 and three inside the 5. Additionally, eight of his punts have been fair caught and just three have been touchbacks. Blain also has booted seven punts that went for at least 50 yards with a long of 57 yards.
Blain is on the list for the second straight year.
The list will be shortened to 10 semifinalists on Nov. 11, then to three finalists on Nov. 22. The finalists and eventual winner will be determined by a national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, coaches, media representatives and previous Ray Guy Award winners. The winner will be announced live on ESPN during The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 8.
