San Diego, California - Just a month ago, Shaun White was honored for his perfect 100 point score in the U.S. Olympic Trials snowboarding half-Pipe competition. Rising to the occasion, he captured the Olympic gold medal, leading 15 local athletes who were chosen February Stars of the Month by the San Diego Hall of Champions.

Sitting in second place heading into his final run, White showed the youngsters how it’s done, scoring a 97.75 to earn his third Olympic title in the event. His flawless back-to-back double cork 1440s in PyeongChang, South Korea, won over the judges.

Joining White as professional stars were a pair of goalies—Boris Pardo for the San Diego Sockers and Kevin Boyle for the San Diego Gulls. Pardo allowed just five goals on 24 shots for the league-leading Sockers while Boyle recorded a 1.66 goals-against–average for the red-hot Gulls.

San Diego State’s Bonnie Draxler led the amateur selections, twice setting conference and school records in the pole vault, winning the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championship at 14-feet-1 ¾-inches.

Joining her was fellow Aztec Jalen McDaniels from the basketball team. USD pitcher Paul Richan and Toreros basketball standout Olin Carter III were joined by UC San Diego’s hoop star Christian Bayne and ex-La Jolla High baseball player Alex Eliopulos.

High school honorees included state boys wrestling champion Domonic Mata of Poway, state runner-up in girls wrestling Destiny Lyng of Helix, Mission Bay basketball standout Rejean (Boogie) Ellis, Mount Miguel’s girls’ basketball stalwart Camara Douglas and soccer players Pedro Mercado of San Marcos and Gloriana Hinojosa of Eastlake, who led their respective schools to division championships.
