San Diego, California - “When you eat, they eat” is the motto of TangoTab, a social and philanthropic company that provides a free app to help feed appetites. Launching in San Diego on February 26, TangoTab is giving people a way to help feed the hungry, simply by dining out. The TangoTab app provides consumers with free restaurant deals, and, every time someone redeems an offer, TangoTab works with its non-profit partners to provide a meal to a person in need. TangoTab has the support of LaDainian Tomlinson and Nick Novak of the San Diego Chargers, as well as Nick Noonan of the San Francisco Giants, who are all committed to helping change the game on hunger.

"No child or family should have to go hungry. Hunger has far-reaching impacts on our society, with more people going to bed hungry than anyone might expect,” said LaDainian Tomlinson, known as "LT" to his legions of fans who cheered him on when he played for the San Diego Chargers. “But the opportunity to help by dining out, and asking your social network to do the same, is also exponential.”
TangoTab kicks off with an event at Bub's @ The Ballpark on February 26 at 6 p.m. Everyone will be encouraged to show their TangoTab app at the door.
Restaurants that have signed on to the TangoTab mission in San Diego include: Bub's @ The Ballpark, The Swell Cafe, Guava Beach Bar & Grill, Rosaria Pizza, Sushi On A Roll, Kamikaze 7 Sushi and Chop Shop.
Using TangoTab is a simple process: diners download the free app (on Android or iPhone) and search for restaurant deals in their preferred area. Restaurants partner with TangoTab to get the word out about specials and to fill seats at times that they need diners. When the diner redeems a deal at a restaurant simply by showing their phone screen to the wait staff, the consumer receives the deal, the restaurant gets business, and TangoTab donates a meal to non-profit partner in that diner’s area.
“TangoTab’s goal is to bring passionate customers to participating restaurants while simultaneously helping fight the hunger problem here at home,” said Andre Angel, founder and CEO of TangoTab. “We have created a win-win-win model where diners save money, restaurants get traffic when they need it, and the hungry have a meal, too.”
TangoTab is excited to partner with local non-profits that are making a difference, including the Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank, the largest hunger-relief organization in San Diego County, and It's All About The Kids. Last year, the food bank distributed nearly 20 million pounds of food, and served, on average, 320,000 people per month in San Diego County. The Food Bank works to acquire, store, organize, and distribute food through a network of 330 non-profit partner organizations that include food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless and residential shelters, youth programs, senior centers, and low-income daycare centers in communities throughout San Diego County.

TangoTab was founded in 2012 as a way to address the significant challenge of hunger right here at home, where one in six Americans will go to bed hungry tonight. TangoTab allows everyone to participate and contribute by simply doing something they love to do -- dine out. And when you eat, they eat. To date, diners have helped TangoTab contribute more than 250,000 meals to people in need – and the number is growing exponentially.
In San Diego, hunger is a real issue. With the official unemployment rate remaining near 10 percent and the "real" unemployment rate believed to be more like 18 percent, hunger is pervasive. More than 446,000 people live below the poverty level in San Diego County and nearly 230,000 children in the county live in low-income households and receive free or reduced-priced meals at school. These individuals face “food insecurity” which means that little or no food is available at home and they do not always know where they will find their next meal.
TangoTab is also a boon for the restaurant industry, meeting restaurants’ ongoing marketing needs in a flexible, real-time way as a controllable marketing tool that also has a “feel-good” component. TangoTab enables owners to promote real-time offers to TangoTab users to maximize traffic when the restaurants want it. The restaurants then pay a nominal fee when the user redeems the offer, which funds meals for the hungry. TangoTab is also available in Austin, , New York, Dallas, Fort Worth, Oklahoma City, Westchester and Hoboken, and is spreading to other markets across the U.S. The movement is by word-of-mouth and via social networking, as diners can choose to post deals redeemed on their Facebook or Twitter and be a voice for the cause.
