San Diego, California - San Diego State University's Coastal and Marine Institute Laboratory is opening its doors to the public, offering a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes in a working marine research lab.

The theme for the family-friendly event is Gadgets and Gizmos: The Tools we use for Science. Interactive activities will showcase the tools scientists at SDSU use to answer important research questions about local marine ecosystems.  Guests will find out how simple tools help scientists tackle complicated questions.

Visitors will learn how to make artificial seagrass, measure kelp forest microbes, survey kelp forests using SCUBA, and much more.
