At Sea - The Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. John Richardson and the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Steven Giordano visited USS Wasp (LHD 1) for Thanksgiving.
The CNO and MCPON shared the holiday with the Sailors and Marines serving aboard Wasp to thank them for their efforts during deployment.
"This is what we do. Your Navy and Marine Corps team is forward deployed 365 days a year to protect our nation," said Richardson. "We could not be more proud of you and the effort you give. No matter what we ask, you rise to the occasion."
During the visit, the CNO and MCPON spent time walking the ship to speak with Sailors and Marines.
"It was an honor to meet and talk with the CNO and MCPON," said Petty Officer 1st Class James Frazier. "They seem very connected to the junior enlisted population and were very willing to talk with us about anything."
After touring Wasp, they joined the crew for Thanksgiving dinner on the Mess Decks.
"It's extremely meaningful to be here on Thanksgiving with you," said Richardson. "It's an honor to share this meal and to say how thankful we are for your efforts out here. There is a whole nation back home that is thankful for what you do."
Wasp is deployed as part of the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations to support maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts. Commander, Amphibious Squadron Six commands the Wasp ARG, which consists of amphibious dock landing ship USS Whidbey Island (LSD 41), amphibious transport dock ship USS San Antonio (LPD 17), and Wasp. The 22nd MEU is currently embarked on the WASP ARG.
