San Diego, California - San Diego State will enter the 2014-15 campaign as the 16th-ranked team nationally in Sporting News’ College Basketball Yearbook, which is on newsstands now. The Aztecs are also the preseason Mountain West favorites, according to the publication.

Checking at No. 16, SDSU is the only school from California in poll and is the only MW representation in Mike DeCourcy’s rankings.

San Diego State, the magazine’s choice to repeat as conference regular-season champions, placed two players on the 10-member all-league squad. Senior Dwayne Polee II landed on the team after being named the 2014 Mountain West Sixth Man of the Year, as did junior Winston Shepard, who garnered Honorable Mention all-MW honors a season ago.

Junior forward Angelo Chol was one of five players on the MW all-newcomer team following his transfer from Arizona. The 6-9, 225-pound San Diego native is eligible this year after sitting out in 2013-14. A graduate of nearby Hoover High, Chol brings 63 games of Division I experience and a postseason resume to this season’s team.

Viejas Arena, meanwhile, was tabbed as the league’s No. 1 venue ahead of The Pit in New Mexico and UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center.
