Fallbrook, California - U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended a man yesterday who had a stolen safe and weapons inside his vehicle.
At approximately 2:15 p.m., Murrieta Station agents encountered a suspicious blue Dodge Caravan while conducting checkpoint operations on Old Highway 395. The man, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, approached the checkpoint, spotted the agents, then made an illegal U-turn and fled in the opposite direction. Agents followed the vehicle and intercepted the man on southbound Interstate 15 at the Mission Road exit.
Agents questioned the man, who indicated that the vehicle was not his and consented to a search.
Border Patrol agents located a weapons safe in the rear of the vehicle and determined that it was associated with a recent home burglary in Oceanside, California. Oceanside Police Department responded to the checkpoint and took possession of the man, the vehicle, and the safe, which contained several rifles, handguns, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
