San Diego, California - San Diego State University’s Homecoming 2013 celebration is dedicated to inviting alumni back to campus and sharing SDSU's Aztec pride.
SDSU will host several events beginning Sunday, Oct. 20, to lead up to its nationally televised homecoming football game against Fresno State at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Qualcomm Stadium.
Below are a few featured events of media interest:
Wednesday, Oct. 23 – SDSU Gives Back – San Diego Blood Bank 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m., South Campanile Walkway, SDSU campus
Aztecs bleed Red & Black! The San Diego Blood Bank will be set up for the Aztec Homecoming Blood Drive.
Thursday, Oct. 24 – War Memorial Vigil 5 p.m. and throughout the night, at the foot of Aztec Green, near the SDSU trolley station. The SDSU Student Veteran Organization (SVO) will partner with Army, Navy and Air Force ROTC students to honor the 234 fallen Aztecs who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. Luminaries will spell out the letters S-D-S-U on which the names of each of the fallen Aztecs listed on the War Memorial will be written.
Friday, Oct. 25 – War Memorial Ceremony 9:30 a.m., War Memorial, SDSU. The SDSU Alumni Association’s annual War Memorial ceremony takes place honoring fallen Aztecs and those who served during our nation's military conflicts. This year’s event features keynote speaker, Brigadier General Robert L. Cardenas, USAF (ret.). Guests are encouraged to bring flowers or wreaths to honor lost loved ones. There will be a reception at the Veterans House on the corner of 55th Street and Lindo Paseo Rd.
Friday, Oct. 25 – Aztec Student Union Update 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Centennial Walk, SDSU Associated Students representatives will be in front of the soon-to-open Aztec Student Union to share with students, faculty, staff, alumni and community everything they want to know about the new building.
Friday, Oct. 25– Homecoming Pep Rally 5:15 p.m., Viejas Arena Lawn Aztecs of all ages will come out to show their support for the Aztec Football team as they depart from school in preparation for Saturday's Homecoming game vs. MWC rival Fresno State. There will be tons of free giveaways! Parking: free in Parking Structure 5, on the upper level from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 25– Alumni & Student Networking Mixer 6:15 p.m., Aztec Recreation Center The First Annual Homecoming Mixer is an event for SDSU alumni, current students and the community to come together in celebration of Homecoming and have a chance to network! Refreshments will be provided by Woodstocks Pizza. Parking: free in Parking Structure 5, on the upper level from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 25– Aztec for Life Homecoming Celebration 7 p.m., Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center, 55th Street across from Viejas Arena Alumni and guests are invited to kick off homecoming weekend with Pro Football Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk and other Aztec legends at the 6th annual event featuring great food, complimentary bar and live entertainment! Proceeds benefit SDSU Athletics and underprivileged youth programs supported by the Marshall Faulk Foundation. Tickets can be purchased at www.MarshallFaulk.com or 858-277-2828.
Saturday, Oct. 26 – Homecoming Pregame Carnival 3:30 p.m., Parking Lot at Qualcomm Stadium. In addition to the homecoming game, there will be a pregame carnival in the parking lot at Qualcomm Stadium featuring carnival rides, entertainment and food. The carnival is open to the public and will have something for fans of all ages. Aztec super-fan Tom Ables will be signing copies of his book "Go Aztecs!" at the Aztec Village tailgate prior to kickoff. Now attending his 69th season of SDSU football games, Homecoming 2013 will be game number 738 for Ables.
