Santee, California - Deputies from the Santee Station were dispatched to a report of a lost hiker in the area of El Cap Open Space Preserve. The female went hiking and when she became lost called the Park Rangers for assistance. ASTREA was called to the area to conduct a search and was able to locate her on a ridge east of the top of El Cajon Mountain.
When ASTREA observed the female she was climbing down the face of El Cajon Mountain and about 100 yards from the top. ASTREA saw the female was sliding on her backside and close to a cliff. ASTREA using their Public Address System was able to communicate with the female and told her to stop. ASTREA determined the best method to rescue the woman was to hoist her out of the area due to the terrain and darkness. San Diego Fire was requested for the hoist operation and responded. With the assistance of ASTREA they were able to locate her and hoist her out of the area.
The woman was flown to the Barona Fire Department #27 and then transported to Grossmont Hospital for a medical evaluation. At this time it is unknown the extent of her injuries.
