San Diego, California - Yesterday, the Hills Bandit attempted to rob a Union Bank branch located at 7807 Girard Avenue in San Diego, California. This attempted robbery was the eighth robbery linked to the Hills Bandit since May 2014. Later that afternoon, he robbed his ninth bank, a Wells Fargo branch located in Laguna Niguel, California.
During September 8’s bank robbery and attempted robbery, the Hills Bandit passed a note demanding cash and threatened with a weapon; no weapon was displayed. No one was injured during either of the robberies.
The Hills Bandit is described as a white male between the ages of 40 and 50 years. In each of the nine robberies, he wore a baseball cap and glasses. In both robberies on September 8, he wore a red Anaheim Angels baseball cap.
The FBI is working jointly with multiple law enforcement partners in both the San Diego and Los Angeles regions to investigate this serial robber. In San Diego, the FBI is working with the Carlsbad Police Department and the San Diego Police Department. FBI Los Angeles is working with the Orange County Bank Robbery Apprehension Team (BRAT) on their investigations.
