Sacramento, California - State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell launched a new research study to explore the feasibility of establishing and expanding career multiple pathways programs to improve outcomes for students attending California high schools. The study began today with an inaugural meeting of education stakeholders at the California Department of Education.

San Diego, California - Guest access to the San Diego Zoo's Giant Panda Research Station is expected to be interrupted over the next few days as female Bai Yun and male Gao Gao are introduced for breeding. Giant panda adults are solitary, normally coming together for a few days each year for breeding.

Washington, DC - The FBI released bank crime statistics for the fourth quarter of calendar year 2008. Between October 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008, there were 1,617 robberies of financial institutions,* as well as 25 burglaries and three larcenies. This represents 1,645 reported violations of the Federal Bank Robbery and Incidental Crimes Statute, an increase from the third quarter’s total of 1,376.

Yahoo! Agrees to Tender Its Stake in Gmarket to eBay |

Sunnyvale, California - Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO) announced today that it has agreed to sell its approximate 10% share in Gmarket (Nasdaq:GMKT), a retail e-commerce marketplace in Korea, to eBay (Nasdaq:EBAY) as part of eBay's announced tender offer for shares of Gmarket. Yahoo! will continue to maintain its other operations in South Korea following the sale.
