NIH celebrates FDA approval of long-acting injectable drug for HIV prevention
Washington, DC - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced its first approval of a long-acting HIV prevention medication. Developed by ViiV Healthcare, the medicine is long-acting cabotegravir injected once every two months. FDA has approved the medicine for use by adults and adolescents weighing at least 35 kilograms who are at risk of sexually acquiring HIV. This milestone marks a vital expansion of biomedical HIV prevention options available to people in the United States. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health, thanks and congratulates everyone who led, conducted and participated in the research that led to this important development.

San Diego, California - San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan announced Wednesday that she and 27 elected District Attorneys across California have been granted a temporary restraining order, by Sacramento Superior Court Judge Raymond Cadei, preventing the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) from enacting an increase from 50% “good time” custody credits to 66% credits for inmates who have been previously convicted of one or more serious and violent crimes.

Air and Marine Operations to accept delivery of final 41-foot SAFE Boat

San Diego, California - U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Air and Marine Operations is close to finalizing the upgrading and modernizing of its marine vessel fleet by accepting delivery on the final 41-Foot SAFE Boat Coastal Interceptor Vessel. AMO contractually accepted its final CIV on December 15. The vessel will arrive at AMO’s San Diego Air and Marine Branch in early 2022.
