Attorneys General Becerra, James Sue Trump Administration for Unlawfully Cutting Penalties for Industry Violations of Fuel Efficiency Standards

Sacramento, California - California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, along with New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas, filed a motion to intervene in Cloud Peak Energy v. U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), a lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court in the District of Wyoming attempting to overturn DOI’s Valuation Rule. The Attorneys General seek to defend the Rule, which ensures taxpayers and states receive fair value for oil, gas, and coal extracted from public and tribal lands.
Attorney General Urges Congress to Pass Strong Legislation to Address Contamination from Dangerous PFAS Chemicals
Sacramento, California - California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, as part of a coalition of 22 attorneys general, Tuesday filed a letter in support of Congress’ efforts to pass legislation addressing the dangers of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). In the letter, the attorneys general provide recommendations to address PFAS contamination and urge that any new law not impair states’ protection of their own communities.
San Diego Zoo Global Honors Jamie Rappaport Clark for Lifetime Commitment to Endangered Species Conservation

“Wildling” mice could help translate results in animal models to results in humans
Washington, DC - Researchers at the National Institutes of Health developed a new mouse model that could improve the translation of research in mice into advances in human health. The mouse model, which the scientists called “wildling,” acquired the microbes and pathogens of wild mice, while maintaining the laboratory mice’s genetics that make them more useful for research. In two preclinical studies, wildlings mirrored human immune responses, where lab mice failed to do so. Led by scientists at the NIH’s National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), the study published online in Science.
