San Diego, California - The Leesburg Police Department in Leesburg, Virginia, announced the recent graduation of their newest K-9, Elmore, and his handler, Officer Lelia Brickley, from their basic K-9 handler course.
Elmore, a one-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer, is the result of an anonymous $15,000.00 donation to the Leesburg Police Department to cover the costs of purchasing and training their newest K-9.
At the request of the donor, Elmore is named after FBI Special Agent Charles W. Elmore, who was killed in the line of duty on August 9, 1979, along with Special Agent J. Robert Porter, at what was then known as the FBI’s El Centro Resident Agency in El Centro, California.
Elmore has received training in patrol duties, to include tracking missing persons. Elmore has also been cross-trained in drug detection (excluding marijuana). Officer Brickley has been with the Leesburg Police Department for more than three years.
“It's been more than 42 years since the tragic killings of Special Agents Charles Elmore and Robert Porter at our El Centro Resident Agency,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge Suzanne Turner. “There have been many tributes and memorials throughout the years honoring both men, to include streets in El Centro being named after each of them. We honor them every year on August 9 here in our field office. They are on the FBI Wall of Honor in every FBI field office and at FBI Headquarters and Quantico. This gesture is a very thoughtful and unique tribute to Special Agent Elmore—a tribute which will carry his name and legacy while continuing the fight against crime.”
