San Diego, California - San Diego State on Wednesday learned it will face Brigham Young in the championship round of the 2014 EA SPORTS Maui Invitational in November. The Monday, November 24, game is set for an 8:30 p.m. PT start on ESPN2.

The Aztecs’ second game will be against either Pittsburgh or the host, Chaminade, on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 7 p.m. PT (ESPN) with a win or 1:30 p.m. PT (ESPN2) with a loss to the Cougars. The other side of the bracket includes championship-round games featuring Purdue-Kansas State and Missouri-Arizona. The final day of the tournament is set for Wednesday, Nov. 26.

SDSU and BYU will meet on the hardwood for the first time since 2011, when the Aztecs defeated Brigham Young, 72-54, in the championship game of the Mountain West tournament to earn the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA tournament. That season, San Diego State shared the regular-season title with the Cougars before claiming the tourney crown and advancing to the Sweet 16 en route to a 34-3 record.

San Diego State will enter the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational championship round with BYU having defeated the Cougars two times in a row on neutral floors and is 3-1 all-time in such situations.

The Aztecs are regarded as a preseason top-25 team heading in to the 2014-15 campaign, ranging anywhere from No. 9 (’s Rob Dauster) to No. 21 (CBS Sports Network’s Jon Rothstein). SDSU returns three starters and eight letterwinners off last season’s squad that won the Mountain West regular-season title, advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 and finished ranked No. 13/12 (AP/Coaches) before posting a 31-5 record. San Diego State also welcomes a pair of Division I transfers and brings a consensus top-15 recruiting class into the fold.

Brigham Young, meanwhile, is coming off a 23-12 season which saw the Cougars advance to the NCAA tournament where they ultimately fell to Oregon in the second round.

Also announced was SDSU’s non-bracketed opening game vs. Cal State Northridge. The Matadors will head to Viejas Arena for a Friday, Nov. 14, date with the Aztecs.

SDSU’s non-conference schedule is still being finalized and will be released upon its completion. The Aztecs’ Mountain West slate, however, was revealed in late July and will begin at home on Dec. 31 vs. Air Force.
