San Diego, California - San Diego State will be competing in three different meets, spanning four days across Southern California this week. The Bryan Clay Invitational runs April 18-20 at Azuza Pacific and the Beach Invitational and the Mt. SAC Relays are April 20-21 at Long Beach State and El Camino College respectively. In total 27 Aztecs will be competing during the week with 13 competing in multiple events and four competing at two separate meets.

Asia Smith kicks off the week for the Aztecs competing in the heptathlon at the Bryan Clay Invite April 18-19. She competes in the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 meter dash on Wednesday and then the long jump, javelin throw and 800 meter run on Thursday. Cassidy Towner will run the 1500 meter on Thursday as well. On Friday April 20, 13 Aztecs will be competing across the three meets. On Saturday, 20 Aztecs will compete at the Beach Invitational and at the Mt. Sac Relays.

All three meets will have live video, however a subscription is required for all three. The Bryan Clay Invitational and the Beach Invitational will be streamed by FloTrack and the Mt. Need to Know

-Ashley Henderson and Lisa-Anne Barrow have the top mark in the Mountain West in two events a piece. Henderson has the fastest time in the 100m (11.12w) and 200m (23.13) and Barrow has the best time in the 400m (53.44) and long jump (20’ 9.25”). The Aztecs also have the fastest time in the 4x100 relay.

-Lisa-Anne Barrow’s time of 53.44 in the 400m dash last weekend was the best in the conference and the seventh best time in school history. It was Barrow’s first time competing in the 400 during the outdoor season.

-Je’Neal Ainsworth has been the top collegiate finisher in four of her five triple jump competitions so far this season.

-Rochene Smith and Simone Glenn were competing in their first meet of the season last weekend and took first and second in the 100m dash. 

-The Aztecs had five top three finishes at last weekend’s Triton Invitational in the sprinting events -- the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes.

-Junior Lakin Hatcher recorded personal best times in the 200m (3rd; 24.61) and 400m (6th; 56.02) dashes last weekend.

-Three of the Aztec’s four discus throwers had personal records last weekend: Coryne McKenney (153’ 3”), Kambridge Van der Veur (144’ 7”) and Cari Acosta (143” 3”).

Rochene Smith Named Mountain West Track Athlete of the Week

Rochene Smith was named the Mountain West Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon. Smith took first place in the 100 meter dash at the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego last weekend. Her time of 11.50 was a personal best and the seventh best time in school history.

It was the first competition of the outdoor season for the senior and her time of 11.50 is the second fastest in the Mountain West so far this season; only teammate Ashley Henderson has recorded a better time, a wind-aided 11.12. Smith’s time is 17th on the NCAA West Qualifying list and T-55th in the nation.

This is the second consecutive week an Aztec has been honored by the conference. Lisa-Anne Barrow was named MW Field Athlete of the Week last week.
