Davis, California - The University of California San Diego men’s water polo team had seven players land on the 2017 Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) All-Academic Team, the conference recently announced.
Sophomore Noah Carniglia, sophomore Calder Hilde-Jones, junior Carson Ivancovich, senior Arman Momdzhyan, junior Collin Sullivan Jr., junior Alessandro Valania Jr., and junior Luka Vasiljevic each earned the accolade.
The trio of Carniglia, Ivancovich and Sullivan Jr. received all-academic honors for the second-straight season, as total of 55 student-athletes from eight member institutions made the list.
To be eligible, a player must have competed in at least 50 percent of the team’s games during the current season, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, be classified as a full-time student and have completed a minimum of one semester or two quarters at his institution.
UC San Diego finished the 2017 season with an 11-14 overall record and 6-1 mark in WWPA play en route to an appearance in the WWPA Tournament championship game.
Momdzhyan was named All-WWPA First-Team and repeated as the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Player of the Year, while head coach Denny Harper earned WWPA Coach of the Year accolades.
