San Diego, California - The NCAA publicly released its 2016-17 Academic Performance Rate (APR) report on Wednesday and all of San Diego State’s 18 programs were above the required 930 cut score. As a result, none of SDSU’s teams are subject to any penalties.

The 2016-17 APR report counts only those student-athletes who were on athletic aid and is a four-year average, counting the 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years.

To compete in the 2018-19 postseason, teams must achieve a 930 four-year APR. NCAA members chose the 930 standard because that score predicts, on average, a 50 percent graduation rate for teams at that APR level. Additionally, teams must earn at least a 930 four-year APR to avoid penalties.

In regards to the multi-year data, all 18 programs (indoor/outdoor track and field count as one) had APR scores of 956 or higher and 13 teams had scores of 980 or higher, which was one better than last year’s effort. Women’s Tennis and Volleyball had perfect multi-year scores of 1,000, and were recognized by the NCAA last week for being in the top 10 percent of their respective sports.

Nine Aztec program’s improved their multi-year APR rate from the previous year and four teams (men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s golf and men’s tennis) saw double-digit improvement from a season ago. With its increased scores, San Diego State’s multi-year average score is 985, which is an athletic department record.

SDSU had 16 programs achieve a single-year APR of 970 or higher with 15 boasting a score of 980 or higher. No Aztec team fell below a 930 for the 2016-17 academic year. Additionally, 11 San Diego State sports had perfect single-year scores of 1,000, including men’s basketball for a second straight year, surpassing last season’s total of eight. The Aztecs’ single-year APR average score for 2016-17 is 992, setting a new department record.
