San Diego, California - As a show of strength and solidarity, Chargers players are urging fans to unite in white as they’ve done the past two seasons and wear white to make it a WHITE HOT SUNDAY at the sold-out 2014 home opener against the defending world champion Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Sept. 14 at Qualcomm Stadium.  The team will be wearing white pants and white jerseys for the home opener for the third year in a row.

“To have our fans with us wearing all white and being loud will definitely help us on defense,” said safety Eric Weddle.  “It’s our home opener and to have any kind of competitive edge is huge.”

“I can’t wait to see every fan in all white. It will be so cool to see a full stadium and everyone in white. I love the all-whites,” said linebacker Donald Butler. “The home opener is always a huge game for us and we’ll need our fans big-time that night.”

“Seeing the fans in all white will be awesome. To look up from the field and see a sea of white; it will be big for us to come out and feed off the fans’ energy,” said tight end Antonio Gates.

Quarterback Philip Rivers said “I love the fact that all the fans are encouraged to wear white on Sunday.  I think anything the fans do like that adds a little bit to the game, it gives it a little more hype. I know the rest of the guys enjoy wearing the white uniforms. Seeing the stadium full of white on a beautiful Sunday afternoon definitely will add to the intensity of the game.”

Kicker Nick Novak summed it up: “I think the Seahawks have set the bar for noise in their stadium and now it’s our turn to raise the bar even higher.”

The Chargers believe this move is another opportunity for the fans in the stands to make a tangible impact on the outcome of the game.

“We’re always looking to do anything we can that will give us an additional edge in the game. The home opener is a chance for the fans to make an immediate impact on our season,” said Chargers CEO A.G. Spanos. “Imagine a full stadium all in white, unified behind the team dressed all in white. It will be loud. It will be impressive. It will be intimidating. And it will give our players a huge emotional boost and an even stronger home-field advantage.”
