Owners of Los Angeles Home Health Agency Sentenced to Prison for Role in Health Care Fraud that Defrauded Medicare

Los Angeles, California - Two owners and operators of a home health agency were sentenced to 10 years and 6½ years in federal prison on Monday for their roles in a scheme to bill Medicare for various items and services – including home health services, diagnostic testing, medical procedures and durable medical equipment – that were not medically necessary and/or were not provided.

Saving ʻAkikiki from Extinction Team Receives Recovery Champion Award

San Diego, California - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has presented a 2018 Recovery Champion Award to a team of conservationists who have been working to save a critically endangered Hawaiian bird. The Saving ‘Akikiki from Extinction Team—which includes members from San Diego Zoo Global, the Hawaiʻi Division of Forestry and Wildlife, and USWFS—was recognized for their leadership in conservation of the ʻakikiki, a small bird also known as the Kauaʻi creeper.
