Attorney General Becerra Joins Coalition Announcing Nationwide Settlement on CVS Health, Aetna Merger

Sacramento, California - Wednesday, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, along with the U.S. Department of Justice (USDOJ) and a multistate coalition, announced a settlement in the CVS Health (CVS) and Aetna merger. The settlement requires Aetna to sell the Medicare Part D plans of 1.5 million people to their competitor, WellCare Health Plans, to ensure competition in the prescription drug benefit market for Medicare beneficiaries. In addition, Aetna is prohibited from selling any new Medicare Part D plans in 2020.

Department of Justice Announces More Than $70 Million to Support School Safety and $64 Million to Improve State Criminal Record Systems

Washington, DC - The Department of Justice Tuesday announced more than $70 million in grant funding to bolster school security, educate and train students and faculty, and support law enforcement officers and first responders who arrive on the scene of a school violence incident. These grants are in addition to the funding to the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO), announced by Attorney General Sessions last week, to expand and update their curriculum to better support training programs.

5 in New York plead guilty to armed robbery scheme

New York - Five plead guilty this week pursuant to an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in New York’s El Dorado’s Task Force, working with the New York Police Department (NYPD) and the New York division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).  Sira Abassi, Kenlee Galvez, David Bradford, Jeremias Munoz, and Luis Monsanto-Germosen pleaded guilty to participating in a conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery during August and September of 2017.
