Step into the Little Elves’ Workshop to become an elf for the day at Lindo Lake and Lakeside Community Center. Santa’s little helpers will make toys, write letters, decorate cookies and sing carols! The new program runs from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8. It is $5 per elf.

Trade in the red and green holiday lights for the twinkle of the stars. Join Parks staff and San Diego Astronomy Association for an evening of stargazing at Oakoasis County Preserve on Dec. 8. Arrive at sunset for a twilight hike to search for bats and scorpions. After the hike, enjoy the night sky and s’mores.

Start a new family tradition of camping over the holidays. The County has a variety of camping sites for tents and RVs, and has several cabins. You could be camping in the desert, next to a lake or in a peaceful mountain forest this holiday season. Hike, fish or bike ride all day and then settle down for a long winter’s nap.
