Washington, DC - The Secretary’s Special Representative for Syria Engagement, Ambassador James F. Jeffrey, will travel to Brussels, Belgium, to attend the Third Brussels Conference on “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region,” co-hosted by the European Union and United Nations March 12-14. The Department’s participation in this conference underscores that, as the largest single donor of humanitarian assistance, U.S. support for the Syrian people remains unwavering.
In his engagements, Ambassador Jeffrey will reaffirm U.S. support for humanitarian assistance to all Syrians. More than eight years into the conflict, the humanitarian situation in Syria remains tragic. It has never been clearer that, with as many as 500,000 dead and 11 million displaced, only the actions of the Syrian regime are to blame for the suffering of its people.
