Poll Workers Needed for November 6 Election

San Diego, California - Poll workers, especially those who are bilingual in any one of six specific languages, are needed for the November 6 Gubernatorial General Election. The Registrar’s office is required by federal law to provide bilingual speakers and voting materials to voters who speak Spanish, Filipino, Vietnamese and Chinese. In addition, a survey conducted by the University of California, Berkeley showed a need for speakers of Arabic and Korean at just under 90 precincts across the county so the Registrar’s office is also recruiting poll workers who are bilingual in those languages for the November 6th election.

Rooftop Cinema Club San Diego is set to roll out weekend twin bills and a Halloween Spooktacular

San Diego, California - Rooftop Cinema Club at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, already the hippest place in San Diego to take in a movie under the stars, has upped the ante and doubled the fun by adding twin bills to its Friday and Saturday-night lineups. Beginning this Friday (Sept. 14), Rooftop Cinema Club is now screening two movies each on Friday and Saturday nights. The early showing will begin after sunset (approximately 7 p.m.), with the late showing scheduled to roll off the projector at approximately 9:30 p.m. Separate admissions are required.

Del Mar Fairgrounds Honored for Sheltering Animals in Disasters

San Diego, California - In a local emergency, the County has turned more than once to the Del Mar Fairgrounds as a regional shelter partner and a large animal shelter and in turn they have provided critical community support. Most recently in the 2017 Lilac Fire, the fairgrounds staff and volunteers cared for and sheltered hundreds of horses.

District Attorney Court Dog Volunteer Recognized for Helping Victims in Court

San Diego, California - San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan announced today that one of the DA’s Court Dog Program volunteers is being honored for her work by the San Diego Crime Commission at its 10th Annual Senior Volunteers Awards Luncheon. Janet Kinnon, 60, and her dog Wellington(“Welly”) volunteer with the San Diego District Attorney’s Office Court Dog Program, which provides support and comfort to child victims of physical and sexual abuse and other vulnerable adult victims or witnesses. Janet and Welly joined the program in 2015 and since then,  have supported countless victims. Since 2017, Janet and Wellington have helped 45 victims and provided nearly 250 hours of volunteer service.
