San Diego, California - A man suspected of robbing the U.S. Bank located at 3201 University Avenue in San Diego, California, was located and arrested Wednesday.

Gustavo Torres, age 32, was charged today in the San Diego Superior Court with one (1) count of bank robbery, Penal Code §211.

On Tuesday, at approximately 4:45 p.m., a lone Hispanic male entered the U.S. Bank located at 3201 University Avenue wearing an orange shirt and blue jeans. The robber was bald, wore a mustache, and was described as 5’6” with a medium build. The robber demanded and received cash from a bank employee. Thereafter, the robber departed the bank and fled the area in a vehicle.

Shortly after the robbery, at approximately 5:30 p.m., an individual believed to be the robber was located by San Diego Police Department officers, driving southbound on Interstate 5. Torres was subsequently detained and further evidence was located with his vehicle, including a large sum of cash and an orange shirt.

Torres’ arraignment was scheduled for Friday, at 1:30 p.m. in the San Diego County Superior Court.

This investigation was conducted by the San Diego Police Department and the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force.

An arrest itself is not evidence that the defendant(s) committed crimes charged. The defendant(s) are presumed innocent until the government meets its burden in court of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
