Friday-Saturday, Oct. 5-6 | Fresno Aquatics Center | Fresno, Calif.
The Aztecs have gotten off to a strong start in their 2018-19 campaign, having recorded a season-opening pentathlon meet win over San Diego and a first-place finish in a relay meet over Washington State and Nevada. The SDSU divers will see their first action of the 2018-19 season at Pepperdine, with the diving portion of the meet starting at noon.
Last time out against Washington State and Nevada, the Aztecs showed considerable improvement from its 2017 relay meet at Nevada. SDSU recorded six more first-place finishes in the 2018 relay meet in comparison to 2017, and the Aztecs improved their times in the 400 free relay, 4x100 IM relay, 1500 free relay, 800 free relay, 500 free relay, 400 medley relay, and the 200 free relay.
Last season, the Aztecs defeated the Waves, 133-75. Larisa Tam (50 breast) and Klara Thormalm (50 fly) each posted first-place times against the Waves last season, while Ava Howard, Thormalm, Elli Ferrin and Ana Roman were all part of a first-place 200 medley relay team in last year’s dual meet at Pepperdine. The Aztecs also hosted Pepperdine last December, and defeated the Waves 189-90 in a double dual meet also featuring UC San Diego. SDSU has come out on top in each of its four meetings with Pepperdine over the last two seasons.
At the Chick-fil-A Invitational, the Aztecs will take on three Mountain West opponents (Air Force, Fresno State, San Jose State), one previous opponent in Washington State, and last year’s national runner-up, California. The Aztecs finished second place in last year’s Chick-fil-A Invitational, placing second behind only California. McKenna Meyer placed first in the 1650 free in Fresno last season, touching the wall at 17:08.03. Meyer also finished second in the 500 free, recording a time of 4:57.36.
Following a busy week, SDSU travels to La Jolla to face UC San Diego, Boise State and UC Davis on Oct. 19 for SDSU’s final meet before the Mizzou Invitational on Nov. 15-17 hosted by the University of Missouri.
