Colorado Springs, Colorado - San Diego State junior Delaney Gallagher was named Mountain West Diver of the Week on Monday morning. The honor marks as Gallagher’s first career weekly conference honor.
Gallagher played a key part in San Diego State’s second place finish at the Chick-fil-A Invitational last weekend, taking first place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. At the end of the two-day invitational, the Aztecs only trailed 2017-18 national runner-up California.
The McLean, Virginia product recorded scores of 282.25 and 278.55 on the 1-meter and 3-meter, respectively. Gallagher’s 1-meter score met the NCAA Zone qualifying standard and currently, Gallagher’s 3-meter score is the best in the Mountain West and 35th best in the nation. Gallagher’s 1-meter score is third in the Mountain West and 21st best in the nation and among the conference leaders, Gallagher only trails her teammates Marie Yacopino and Ximena Lechuga, who recorded higher scores in SDSU’s dual meet win at Pepperdine.
After a busy week last week, San Diego State is idle until Oct. 19 when it travels to La Jolla, California for a meet against UC San Diego, Boise State, and UC Davis. Last year, Boise State claimed the Mountain West title with SDSU finishing in second for SDSU’s ninth consecutive top-three finish.
