San Diego, California - Jaden Fein of the San Diego State baseball team was named a 2019 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American, the publication announced on Wednesday morning.
Fein was named Mountain West Co-Freshman of the Year last month, leading all freshmen in the Mountain West with a .350 in-conference batting average and a .600 conference slugging percentage. The Simi Valley, Calif. product became SDSU's first MW Freshman of the Year since Stephen Strasburg won the award in 2007.
Fein, who finished the season with four home runs, 20 RBIs, a .293 batting average and a team-best .473 slugging percentage, joins Casey Schmitt (2018) and Chase Calabuig (2015) as recent Aztecs to be Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American selections. In addition, Fein is the 14th Aztec since 1994 to be named a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American.
Fein split time between first base and right field defensively in 2019 and recorded the best slugging percentage by an Aztec freshman since Brock Ungricht slugged .518 in 2004.
The Aztecs recorded their sixth 30-win season in the last seven years in 2019, going 32-25 with a 16-13 record to finish second in the Mountain West regular season standings.
