UNICON: Creative Industry Trade Mission to Nigeria
San Diego, California - An exhibition of the African creative industry demonstrating the power, reach and profitability of African content will kick off in Nigeria on November 17 in partnership with the U.S. embassy of Nigeria. Dubbed “UNICON,” the exhibit will provide content creators with access to global consumers and stakeholders over two days of immersive engagements in animation, comics, African stories, video games, AR/VR, and graphic arts.

San Diego, California - San Diego Padres celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month and the anniversary of various Latin American countries from September 14 to 16. The three-day celebration included Fiesta in the Park, Hispanic Heritage Night, and Mexican Independence Day featuring different experiences and activities each day. Chamber Vice President of International Business Affairs, Paola Avila, was selected to throw the Ceremonial First Pitch as part of the pregame ceremonies for the Padres game that Friday.

San Jose, California - A federal grand jury has indicted South Bay doctor Venkat Aachi, charging him with distributing hydrocodone outside the scope of his professional practice and without a legitimate medical need, and with health care fraud related to the submission of false and fraudulent claims regarding the health care benefits, announced United States Attorney Alex G. Tse, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent in Charge Chris Nielsen, Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge John F. Bennett, and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (HHS-OIG) Special Agent in Charge Steven J. Ryan.

Fresno, California - Nicholas Carroll Watkins, 30, of Valley Springs, was sentenced Monday by Chief U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. O’Neill to 25 years in prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release for receiving material involving the sexual exploitation of minors, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced. Watkins will also be required to register as a sex offender.
