Man Sentenced To Four Years In Prison For Embezzlement Scheme From His Employer
San Francisco, California - Michael Livingston Henry was sentenced Wednesday to 48 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution for stealing more than $800,000 from his former employer and her family’s charitable foundation, announced United States Attorney David L. Anderson and Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge Craig D. Fair. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Charles R. Breyer.

San Jose, California - Sudhish Kasaba Ramesh was sentenced Wednesday to 24 months in prison and ordered to pay a $15,000 fine for intentionally accessing a protected computer without authorization and recklessly causing damage, announced United States Attorney David L. Anderson and Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge Craig D. Fair. The sentence was handed down by the Honorable Lucy H. Koh, U.S. District Judge.
FBI Releases 2019 NIBRS Crime Data
Washington, DC - Wednesday, the FBI released detailed data on nearly 7.7 million criminal offenses reported via the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) in 2019. The Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program’s latest report, NIBRS, 2019, presents data about victims, known offenders, and relationships for offenses reported in 23 categories with 52 offenses. It also presents arrest data for those crimes, as well as 10 additional categories for which only arrest data is collected.

San Diego, California - A loan shark who primarily preyed on the Latino community, was arrested on suspicion of extortion and making criminal threats in connection with cash loans he made to multiple victims in San Diego County. Hamze Mohamad Karnib, a.k.a. Alex Karnib, 35, demanded repayment well in excess of the amounts borrowed by his victims, then intimidated and threatened borrowers who found themselves unable to meet Karnib’s payment demands.

Washington, DC - An experimental vaccine developed in Europe to prevent infection by Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) has protected cynomolgus macaques in a new collaborative study from National Institutes of Health scientists. The animals received the DNA-based candidate vaccine through intramuscular injection immediately followed by electroporation - a process in development for human vaccines that helps cells absorb DNA. The study, published in Nature Microbiology, comes about three years after the same research group developed the macaque model for CCHFV. No specific treatments or vaccines for CCHFV exist.

San Diego, California - Dr. Jennings Ryan Staley, previously charged with one count of mail fraud, was indicted by a federal grand jury Wednesday for additional crimes arising from his business venture selling COVID-19 “treatment kits,” which he advertised to one potential customer as a “miracle cure.” Staley is a licensed physician and the former operator of Skinny Beach Med Spas in and around San Diego.
